I've used Avast for many, many years, in fact, since it was free. But I've had trouble on two occasions where they will charge twice for the same service.

Recently, I needed to change my card# and they replied "Since your Avast Subscription Auto-Renewal service has been disabled, for security purposes this service cannot be re-enabled.." and they supplied a link to renew with the new card#. So I followed their instructions and they issued me a new subscription. Thinking the old subscription would expire because "for security purposes this service cannot be re-enabled...". Today, Christmas eve, they renewed the account that "Auto-Renewal service has been disabled".

Come to find out the link they supplied was with Nexway and the charge today was from Digital River. So, obviously they took the card# supplied to Nexway and conveyed it to Digital River for an account that "Auto-Renewal service has been disabled" and re-enabled it. A typical "Tree Card Monty" scam. Now I have to go thru a run around of "It's not me it's the guy behind the tree".

This is unscrupulous and dishonest! Never, never ever do business with Avast!

They are as devious as the viruses they profess to defend you against. As a matter of fact it's easier to recover from a virus infection than deal with their thievery.

By disputing the charge the bank will cancel my card and it will be a week before I get a new one. This is Christmas eve and all my money will be locked in the bank till 2016.

So, I would have to cash out my account, less the funds in dispute, and be walking with a bunch of cash in pocket. Not really a resolve.

The obvious solution now is to just dispute the charge with your credit card issuer. My question tho, is why you are paying for Avast when they offer a free version?

I have used their free version for years with no problems and it works just fine. By the way, I hope you are using something other than Internet Explorer, preferably Firefox for even more security while online.

Well, It's fairly obvious that I pay for more features, besides paying is not the issue. The misleading, deception is the issue.

And, the conveying of my CC# to a company I did not authorize for use. It verges on CC theft. In addition, the subscription they charged for was disabled for auto pay. In their own words "Since your Avast Subscription Auto-Renewal service has been disabled, for security purposes this service cannot be re-enabled" yet they did, with a credit card # they obtained from another vendor and gave it to a different vendor.

That's like you giving your friend, that you trusted, your credit card to buy something for you and they give to another friend you don't trust and they buy the same thing for more money! And finally, maybe your issue with IE has to do with using the free version of Avast.
