I tried Avast antivirus free trial and it never found any virus or malware. After the trial I was billed for a year.

After that I somehow was subscribed to Avast premium cleanup for an additional annual fee. This program not only cleaned, but totally messed up my computer to the point that programs would not load. This was after the first month. I called Avast for customer support, which doesn't exist, and was told they would connect me with their technical support and I would be charged for help.

I told them I did not want the software and wanted a refund.

Avast is a bad program and support is nil. It is not only a waste of money, but a bigger waste of time.

Reason of review: Bad quality.

How did they get your credit card number? I'm curious about all the people who claimed their credit cards were billed when they claimed they ordered nothing and bought nothing.

These misrepresentations show the need for government oversight. They oversee us, destroy individual privacy, so why not oversee the fraudster using the :US internet?

First, be careful because Avast has an auto renewal and if you don't cancel with them and/or ensure they cannot bill a credit card next year you will end up paying for another year of Avast. When all else fails, cancel the card and get another so they have nothing to bill next year.

Tell your card issuer what the problem is. They have heard it all before. Also, Avast has a free edition which you can use year after year for free. You must have not gone to the free edition link but instead to the regular one with the free trial and then subscription.

The clue would have been the fact that you gave them your name, address and, most importantly your credit card info. With the free edition, all you give is your name, address, and email---not your credit card info as it is always free. As for support, Avast has none to speak of as you found out. At this point, I would do an uninstall of Avast---make sure you also get and use the "clean uninstall" for Avast or whatever they call it via a search online and run the little thing to ensure ALL files, junk or otherwise that always remains when you uninstall any anti virus software.

Then, get the Avast free edition or a free version of another antivirus program---there are many out there. I have used the Avast free version and it works well, tho you have to go thru the settings, etc. when you first install it or you will be inundated with junk and other strange occurrences. Also, you might look into one or some of these FREE anti-malware programs: malwarebytes, ccleaner, superantispyware.

These you run once a week or so to catch the bad stuff some sites put on your machine that a regular anti-virus program doesn't catch.

The three I mentioned are always a part of any new computer I set up and work very well. And then, of course make sure you have a couple of ad blockers installed as add-on to whatever internet browser you use, eg., Firefox, IE, etc.

Good answer - A agree. I also NEVER GAVE MY CREDIT CARD # so I was safe . However, you should also ignore all their pop-ups advising you of "Out of date drivers" ' because upon verification, I found this information to be false and just a money grabbing scheme.
